Training/Friendly Match-29 March

There is NO training this Friday and no match on Saturday. We were due to
play Nomads on 29 March but being in the middle of the Easter holidays they
have a number of players away and we have agreed for the match to be
rescheduled to 12 April.

If there are enough players available and wishing to play I will try and
organise a friendly match for Saturday week 29 March. Can you please let me
have availability for the 29th asap.

Thanks

Vauxhall Astras 1-1 Hornets

A terrific display from the all the boys today against a good Vauxhall side.
Right from the start the boys played with a high tempo and produced some
excellent passing football and were unlucky not to be rewarded with a goal
following a great passing movement between four of the players and the
keeper making a good save. Mike and James A played well together and were
supported by James A and Adam who were very combative in midfield. When
Vauxhalls did manage to break out both Will and Dan were rock solid in
defence with Jamie having little to do for much of the half.Just before half
time a great ball from James H sent Mike through on goal. His shot from the
edge of the area left the Vauxhall keeper with little chance and the Hornets
took a well deserved lead.

It was more of the same in the second half although playing against the wind
was a little more testing. More slick passing between Joe, Mike and James H
nearly resulted in another goal for Mike who was only denied by a great
save. Vauxhall pressed forward for an equaliser but great defending by Will
and Ollie stifled most attacks. In the dying minutes Vauxhalls continued to
have more possesiion and only a last ditch tackle by Will prevent an
inevitable goal. The ball broke to the Vauxhall striker whose shot was
destined for the top corner only for Jamie leaping high to his right to palm
the ball away for a corner. A England No.1 in the making! It looked as
though the Hornets had held out for a well earned win when Vauxhall were to
the amazement of the travelling parents awarded a free kick on the edge of
the box. A great free kick into the top corner drew Vauxhall level.

A great game of football and once again it demonstrated that there is very
little between all the top teams in this league. Well done to all the boys.

Hornets 1-2 Upton Panthers

If ever there was a game of two halves this was it. Half of the Hornets
seemed asleep and looked as if they wished to be elsewhere. By contrast
Upton were quickly out of the blocks and played some excellent passing
football to which the Hornets had little response and Upton took an early
lead which could have been extended but for some superb goalkeeping by
Jamie.

Half time brought four substitutions and a different level of energy and
commitment in the team. Adam began to dominate the midfield with some great
tackling and passing and Mike continued to run his socks off as usual. The
two Dans linked well in defence and Joe looked lively upfront. The Hornets
continued to battle throughout the second half and with five minutes to go
they were rewarded with a goal. A cracking corner from Mike hit Joe and
straight into the net. A typical forwards goal. A case of being in the right
place and the right time. The Hornets pressed for a winner and were unlucky
not to score a second when James A's flick rebounded off the post.

In a cruel twist the ball was lost in attack and Upton broke quickly and
scored the winner in the dying seconds. If the Hornets can match the level
of commitment and determination showed in the second half of this game there
will be more wins than losses in the games to come.

FW: Hornets v Upton Panthers Saturday 1 March

The game is at home. Kick off is at 10 so can everyone be there for 9.35
please. The team will need to lift their game from last Saturday.Upton will
be very strong opposition and the team will need to play extremely well to
get a result.

There is now a lot of competition for places. We have 10 outfield players
with 6 starting places available. I believe the most important aspect of the
game is that all the boys enjoy the football and have the opportunity to
take part. There will be substitutions during the game and I will try to
ensure that each player has a reasonable amount of game time.

If anyone is not able to play can you let me know.
